plastic bags (grumpily making big tooth day — part II)

Having spent the entire morning and part of afternoon exploring, immi found a fantastically different drawer to rummage through!

Immi is in the kitchen going through the plastic bag drawer (these things keep piling up despite that we take cloth bags with us to grocery!).

Immi got most of the bags out of the drawer.

The bags need fluffing up a bit since they were compacted from being stuffed into the drawer.

Spreading them more evenly across the kitchen floor.

Immi seems to be satisfied with her installation art and just playing with the two favorites (one from Cheesecake Factory and the the other from Teavana).

Immi’s molar on her lower right is about to poke through and she seems to be feeling less than fabulous. She woke up a bit earlier than usual, don’t have much appetite, and don’t want to play on her own in her playpen.

…so she is crawling around (and a bit of walking too) and looking for trouble. She is taking around her magnetic acrobats (Auntie Junko got her this toy a while back and immi loves them) with her looking for things that they can stick on to (so far she has found a black fold-up stool, metal trash can, and the fridge)

Tony is visiting us this weekend from NY and we are dining at the Cheesecake Factory. Immi ate some bean sprouts from Tony’s lettuce wrap platter, a bit of chicken from my salad, and complimentary bread. Immi is now getting the tour around the restaurant.

We are at JAPAN!: culture + hyper culture event at the Kennedy Center in DC. Immi is snoozing through the installation Four Cubes to Contemplate Our Environment by Tadao Ando.

Immi woke up and found herself in yellow room full of dots (Dot Obsession by Yayoi Kusama).

Immi had a 1 year check up today. And everything is great! The doctor was even fine with the amount of weight she gained. Immi was a show-off. She was standing on the examination table the entire time she was allowed to, and she even tried to demonstrate her walking skill (but not enough space on the table!) when the doctor was asking us if she started to walk. Immi was also a chitter-chatter, which the doctor took note of and said was fantastic.

When the nurse came in with immi’s vaccines, she seems to have remembered the nurse from previous visits because immi looked very worried (this is the first time ever that i’ve ever seen immi look worried!). And then she started crying as soon as she saw the needle even before it poked her.

Immi is now:

Weight: 15.6 lb

immi is being grumpy. She couldn’t take long enough nap because her first molar is still trying to poke through (its a big tooth!).

Today immi turned 1 at 2:01 am!

…and guess what!? She started walking on her birthday! She takes 5-7 steps consistently. Todd had guessed months ago that immi would start walking on her birthday and it happened exactly like that.

Immi got a little doll house from her grandmom and she LOVES it! She didn’t even want to come out of her playpen for dinner because she was busy playing. Immi seems to know how to play with it. She puts the little couch in the bedroom, the bed on the roof and the little dolls in various places. She does occasionally chew on the daddy doll or stuff the baby doll down the drain pipe of her air ball popper machine.

Immi points at things now. When i say “where is the baby?”, immi points at the picture of the baby in her peek-a-boo book. When I say “where is the kitty?” she flips the rug and points at the cat.

Immi is spending the last hours as a 0 year old doing the usual: rummaging.

Immi learned to throw tantrums! If she doesn’t get what she wants (e.g. rummage through container full of guitar picks, not be put in her crib, eat cat food) she jumps up&down and screams. It’s actually somewhat amusing, unless it’s bedtime and we all just want to go to sleep.

Immi and the piano.

She likes to bang out music.

She got more teeth this weekend. I’m not sure exactly how many more. Her lower left 1st molar is definitely poking through now. The matching one on the right looked swollen but i haven’t seen any tooth there yet. Her lower lateral incisors looked like they are coming out too. But its all difficult to see because its not like she’ll keep her mouth open for me to inspect!
