home

August 30th, 2008 | By Kyoko

We got back home this afternoon. Immi seems happy to be home. She is out on the patio with her dad watering and misting plants. Immi is picking off catnip and feeding her kitties.

Immi says a new word: “wroof”. She says it when she hears dogs barking.

bye!

August 29th, 2008 | By Kyoko

Today was the last day at the beach — the week went by so fast! Immi’s grandparents, immi and I spent a lot of time by the ocean today. Immi is no longer scared of the waves. She had so much fun walking into the water and then running away from the incoming waves (I don’t have any photo/video of this because my hand was wet all the time!). We even had lunch on the beach (sandwich and chips!). Immi did get a little tan despite the waterproof sunblock.

Here’s immi taking a nap after her bath.

Immi’s grandparents’ friends (the ones who kindly took us boating earlier this week) came over for dinner and when they were getting ready to leave, Immi waved, said “bye!” and showed them where the door was. IMMI SAID “BYE!” — it took me a while to realize that it was a new word since she has been waving ‘bye-bye’ for a while now, but hasn’t actually said the word.

We are packing our bags tonight since we are leaving early tomorrow morning. Immi is packed and ready to go!

Southport

August 28th, 2008 | By Kyoko

Immi, her grandparents and I are taking the ferry to Southport (a little town in NC about 20 minutes by boat and 1.5 hours by car from the beach house) today!

We are having lunch at Fishy Fishy Cafe. Of all yummy things on the table, Immi seems to enjoy the complimentary oyster crackers the best.

We took a very nice walk around the town, spent some time on the big swing, and had fun looking around in the really cute toy shop where Immi adopted a little lemur (we think it’s a lemur…a mouse lemur?). Immi got so tired that she fell a sleep while we strolled back to the car and didn’t wake up at all the entire ride back to the beach house.

evening

August 27th, 2008 | By Kyoko

Immi’s grandparents are at the town meeting and Immi and I are talking a walk on the beach.

Immi is playing with sand.

Immi is running.

Immi is sitting and looking at seashells and seaweed that have washed up with the tide.

seashells

Immi is playing with her beach toys in the sand. (She is refusing to wear a hat today for some reason…)

She is collecting seashells!

Immi is shuttling shells back and forth between a designated spot on the blanket and her ocean filled purple bucket.

night time

August 26th, 2008 | By Kyoko

It’s getting late but Immi is still up for more fun. She is doing stickers and crayons at the moment.

Immi is doing very well away from home even though she seems to miss her kitties a lot. She says “meow? meow??” and looks around everywhere for them several times a day.

Immi’s linguistic comprehension level seems to be taking off these days. She can follow many simple orders (“Put the keys back on the hook”, “Go get your shoes”, “Please move your Mr. Moose out of the way.” “Put your crayons away” etc.) and she seems to have stocked up on quite a bit of vocabulary. It’s still amusing to me when I see evidences of her linguistic understanding because Immi has yet to say much more than ‘meow’, ‘mama’, ‘dada’, and ‘hi!’.

aquarium

August 26th, 2008 | By Kyoko

We are at the aquarium today! Immi is watching the alligators.

Immi and Mr. Moose are looking for fish in the big tank.

Immi is watching huge lobsters in the cylindrical tank.

Immi was so excited to be at the aquarium that she ran around every which way looking into various tanks until she was completely exhausted. At this point, she suddenly flopped onto the aquarium floor and cried!

walk

August 25th, 2008 | By Kyoko

It was rainy earlier today but it cleared up so we are taking an evening walk.

Immi is very happy to be on the beach!

Immi is sitting and playing with sand under her feet.

Then suddenly, she realized how tired she was from having no nap and got very grumpy. It started to sprinkle a little too, so we headed home.

nap & boat

August 24th, 2008 | By Kyoko

Immi is taking a nap after lunch in the living room.

We are on a boat with Immi’s grandparents and their friends who live in the area. Immi loves boating! She likes having wind in her hair and she pointed and cheered when she saw birds and other boats.

We docked the boat at a Harbor Masters, a seafood restaurant, for dinner. I had crabcake sandwich and Immi got mac&cheese. She ate more than half of her plate (it was quite a big serving!) on her own with a fork!

beach

August 24th, 2008 | By Kyoko

It’s past noon and we are enjoying the beach!

There is lots of strong winds and big waves which made immi a little scared of the ocean. She preferred sitting in her purple beach chair buried in toys.

After quite a long while of relaxing in her chair, Immi decided to play with the beach toys and a bucket of ocean that I had brought for her to the edge of our blanket.

Sand in her toes!

Even though we are having such a nice time with immi’s grandparents and the beautiful beach, Immi misses her daddy a whole lot (and I do too!). We hope you were here!

driving

August 23rd, 2008 | By Kyoko

We are about 1.5 hours from the beach I’m sitting in the back with immi and we are having fun playing. We just finished playing “immi feeds mr. lion the handpuppet a pretzel” and now doing stickers. Immi sticks her stickers only into her notebook most of the time. But, when I told her that the sticker was a ‘princess hat’ she stuck this one on to her head!

We are at the beach! Immi is looking out into the ocean from the big patio.

we are going…

August 23rd, 2008 | By Kyoko

…to the beach! Immi’s Grandparents invited immi and I to come along to their vacation  since Todd is away on business next week. It will be a little sad going on a vacation without him but immi loves the beach so we must go: )

We are leaving in an hour, I set the alarm on wrong and woke up an hour earlier than I intended. Blegh. We will be back on Saturday a week from today, but there will hopefully be lots of pictures to post long before that.

fashionista

Immi is helping herself to whatever she can reach in the closet. She picked out a pink fleece beanie and a silver chain belt to coordinate with her outfit.

Now immi is being a runway model.

When I changed her outfit (it was dirty, you just can’t see it in photo) she wanted to wear the white scarf.

Immi can now climb into my chair! …and nothing is safe from Immi on my table: (

squirrel and hair gel

August 20th, 2008 | By Kyoko

We are taking a walk because it is really nice out. Immi stays on the path most of the time but she ventured onto the grassy area because she spotted a squirrel and wanted to talk to him (in “meow” of course!).

Who needs hair gel when you can use all natural, non-toxic, organic blueberry yogurt to achieve the same result??

Today I saw Immi put something in the trash can and I assumed she put trash in it. I found out shortly afterwards that she had put a mesh gift bag I was using to put a ball of yarn in. Admittedly, it was empty at the time and it “could be” a trash to many people but I wasn’t planning on throwing it out just yet.  I guess Immi doesn’t quite understand about re-using and re-cycling.

trash

August 20th, 2008 | By Kyoko

Immi seems to understand the concept behind trash bin! When immi is done eating her cereal bar, she puts the wrapper in the trash. When she peels the border off the sticker sheet, she rolls it up in her palms and puts it in the trash. When immi finished having cereals in the tiny chocolate box from Japan earlier today (I ate the chocolate and refilled it with cereal before giving it to immi…is that mean? ) she put that in the trash too. In the past few weeks I’ve been watching her put stuff in trash, I have yet to catch her putting non-trash into trash bin.

And I have evidence that immi remembers things from a month before. When immi spotted Boo-Boo Juice (her foaming wound cleanser that smells like fruits!) in the bathroom cabinet, she pretended to put it on her knees just like the last time we used it, which was about a month ago. It’s not that I didn’t know that she has long term memory, but it’s fun to see glimps of what goes on inside Immi’s head!

A cute video of Immi systematically organizing her crayon collection. Immi is totally our little girl, she sure knows how to organize things!

big box

August 19th, 2008 | By Kyoko

We received a big box of goodies from immi’s Ojiichan and Obaachan who recently moved back to Japan (from Vietnam, permanently!). This is a perfect treat for Immi and I since it’s a little too quiet here with Todd in Detroit on business trip this week (we miss you!!).

Immi is tapping on the box, which means “Open this!”

Immi unpacking the box and inspecting contents.

Immi is grumpy now because she spotted packs of gummies but I woudn’t open any of them. I’m quite sure that she knows they are gummies. It’s packaged like the ones she gets sometimes which are formulated for toddlers and has easy to eat texture.

Immi cheered up already because she found a Hello Kitty bag, it even matches the dress she is wearing!

Immi Dancing to “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay Video

August 17th, 2008 | By Todd

Immi loves to dance to all kinds of different music but she really loves this Coldplay song called “Viva La Vida” in particular. Perhaps her display of rhythm is a little more on the side of performance art or slam dancing! :)
