puzzle

February 27th, 2010 | By Kyoko

Immi got out this wooden puzzle (I had it put away since it’s far too easy for immi but a bit early for Ashland). Ashland was totally happy about just chewing on it, but Immi showed him how it works and now he is trying to do the puzzle (he is just slamming the puzzle pieces onto the board, but it’s a nice try!). Immi is now supervising and helping along sometimes.

back to the beach

February 21st, 2010 | By Kyoko

We were out having our Saturday Coffee yesterday morning…and it was such a *blah* of a morning! When I mentioned this to Todd, he totally agreed. We talked about how some days are just so *blah* and it’s pointless trying to work hard on those days since nothing good will come of it anyways.

So then we got to talking about cure of *blah* …and we both thought “beach!!”. It’s only 1.5 hours away and we really didn’t do it justice last time having spent only a few hours (when we had intended on taking a mini vacation at the beach). We went home and I got packing and Todd finished up a few things and off we went. We made it to the beach long before sunset!

Immi of course is really really happy. (She even says “Happy!” these days!)

You’ll be so bored of immi-and-the-sunset-at-the-beach photos, but hey, there are far worse things you can get bored of :D

After the sunset, we drove 10 minutes from Cannon beach to Seaside beach where we had booked for a night at a Bed&Breakfast while driving down here. We found a candy shop and immi is excited trying to pick out few special ones.

When we woke up this morning, we walked down to the Seaside beach, and then had morning coffee at a coffee shop named “The Coffee Shop”. Immi seems to think that the jelly donut is heaven.

We decided that we like Cannon beach (we think that the beach is much prettier, there’s less people, and has cuter town) a lot better so we drove back to Cannon beach and hanging out for a bit before heading home.

Immi is playing in the play ground at the Mt. Tabor.

This little mountain is actually a lot bigger (with very tall trees!) than I thought it would be considering it’s sort of in the middle of Portland.

painting

February 16th, 2010 | By Kyoko

Immi is having lots of fun painting.

Immi going Jackson Pollock on her paper.

Here’s the finished piece. Just so there’s no confusion (i.e. You offer her $8000 for this painted piece of paper — several pieces of notebook paper stuck together actually — and then tell me she didn’t possibly do this on her own, I take the credit for purple dots on the left hand corner. I did those when she had just started on it :D ).

Here’s another one:

happy birthday

February 10th, 2010 | By Kyoko

Immi is THREE! How amazing is that!? She wanted sushi of course, so that’s what we got on her birthday eve. She was excited about the spring roll.

We had quite ordinary (though still special!) day for her birthday since we can’t really top going to the beach! Immi had the bestest time with her ice cream factory. She always says “nununununu” when she squeezes out “ice cream” — she is totally into onomatopoeias (of her own creations), she uses them about as much as a Japanese person would speaking in Japanese.

…And then she took a nap with her Hello Kitties

And then after that we went to ToysRus (when we drove past by the other day, she wanted to go in) and she got to pick which ever toy she wanted. After walking every aisle, she picked out Strawberry-Shortcake-mobile. Actually she’s wanted this several times at Target but we never got it, so I’m glad she finally got exactly what she wanted (and I’m glad she picked an reasonable item what I didn’t need to veto!). She has been obsessed with this thing since then and still playing with it this morning.

the coast

February 9th, 2010 | By Todd

Today is a very special day because it is Immi’s 3rd birthday! This weekend we decided to just go to the coast because Immi just loves the ocean so much. These are a few of the photographs I took, they turned out pretty…well – see for yourself:

No name for any of these photographs yet, going to be few more posts soon because we go too many great pictures.

beach

February 7th, 2010 | By Kyoko

We are on our way to the beach because it’s almost immi’s birthday and she loves the beach. It’s afternoon, and the drive lulled immi to sleep.

It’s a really beautiful beach, and it’s a beautiful day! We don’t even need a jacket.

Immi is splashing about at the edge of the ocean. I had no idea that rain boots had such use!

Immi’s dad took off his shoes to cross the river to take photos, and immi is pleading him to let her take off hers. (The answer is “NO!”, it’s nice out, but the water is cold. Really cold.)

Immi was splashing about so much and the bigger wave came in and the cold water got in her boots. So I offered immi her jacket thinking she might be cold, but then she got really mad! As it turns out, she was upset at the sight of jacket because she thought that it means we are leaving, and she didn’t want to leave the beach!

playing with toys

February 5th, 2010 | By Kyoko

I’ve been noticing that immi’s lego creations are, increasingly, showing off both her understanding of ‘real’ world and her creativity. This little truck hardly captures much (her super castle-sanctuary for zoo animals with a flower forest got destroyed before I got a picture!) but I think that it looks a kind of realistic with window in the front. Of course it’s topped with a faery wand because…it’s immi’s creation!

Immi has also been really into putting her little toy friends to sleep. She made a cozy nest for her monkey and kitty on top of the ice cream shop. She tucked in teeny tiny toys under their blanket because that’s what she likes to do for herself when she goes to sleep.

We think that she thinks that she can take things with her to dreamland as long as it’s with her under the blanket. …Why else would she insist on sleeping with seemingly random assortment of not particularly cuddly toys (wooden kitchen toys, legos, glowsticks…)?
