flowers and berries

August 28th, 2010 | By Kyoko

We are at the market in Sauvie Island and Immi is running around in the field of flowers.

Immi is so happy, she can’t stop running!

It’s completely gorgeous out!

And now we are off to berry picking!

We are picking blueberries and blackberries today!

Immi was cranky for no apparent reason other than that Ashland is being cranky due to teething. I notice that they often feed into each others moods (they are both good, or they are both bad). I thought before Ashland was born that we’d never be able to dine out again, but dining out hasn’t been much of a challenge at all with the two of them— they seem to both enjoy it a lot and so they are both well behaved for most part (of course this might change with 3rd one in the mix!). Anyhow, I thought it might cheer immi up if I did something different, so I put her hair up in a pony tail (something I’ve never done). She totally loved it and now very happily sitting in a box.

hawthorne fair

August 15th, 2010 | By Kyoko

We were invited for coffee and donuts at our friends’ who live in Hawthorne area because there’s a street fair going on there. Immi is absolutely in love with their garden (the backyard has a little gate that leads into the veggie garden).

We stopped in Fat Straw for bubble smoothie to cool off because it’s actually (unusually for Portland this summer) hot out side today! Immi is guzzling up honeydew melon smoothie with tapioca pearls.

Immi seems to be enjoying the festivities (lots of people, live music, free balloons!) and now she is playing in the hula hoop corner.

Immi got some kettle corn at the market.

Immi is being grumpy for no apparent reason while we put away veggies we just got.

We are shopping at Trader Joe’s for some items we can’t get at the market (i.e. Bananas for Ashland — we can’t get those at the market probably because it doesn’t grow here!). Immi is helping out with the mini shopping cart!

wednesday

August 11th, 2010 | By Kyoko

We are having a usual sort of Wednesday. Immi is dressed up as a princess today!

Immi and I are hanging out in the studio during Ashland’s nap time. She really wanted to play with my fabric scissors (not in 20 years!!) and I remembered I had gotten her safe plastic ones a while ago. She is trying it out (blue one cuts straight and red one cuts zigzag) — her hands are still a bit small for it but she is getting better already!

Before dinner, Immi spent some time painting. It’s one of her favorite activities but she hadn’t done this for few weeks because we ran out of paint and I kept forgetting to buy them. During the weeks she didn’t paint, she seems to have gotten better at it (or if not better, then at least more deliberate about it). Suddenly, she didn’t want the colors of the palette getting mixed up and it really upset her until she understood the purpose of washing the brush between changing colors.

And here’s her finished painting!

lollipop

August 10th, 2010 | By Kyoko

We are in the waiting room for my prenatal appointment. Immi seems to associate waiting rooms with lollipops (our previous doctor in VA had candy basket at reception) and demanded one out of my purse. I didn’t think I had any left but after a careful search (prompted my immi of course), I found one in the bottom of my purse.

Hey Auntie Junko, she is using the yellow purse you got her from…I can’t remember (Dubai?). When I saw how much her Hello Kitty purse didn’t match her outfit, I remembered about this one — Immi likes it a lot if you couldn’t tell!

Tea Thyme

August 5th, 2010 | By Kyoko

We are at Tea Thyme and Lavender for afternoon tea. While the tea is being served, immi is hanging out on a couch in the backroom.

Of all the yummy treats on the table (scones, lavender cookies, quiche, marionberry teacake…) the only thing immi really wants is bread with butter!

It’s a bit hot out (for me!) but we decided to brave it head out. Immi is very happy to be going out on an adventure.

We are enjoying lunch time at the market. Immi is having croissant. She decided that her dad’s raspberry lemonade is her’s.

Ashland’s Birthday

July 22nd, 2010 | By Kyoko

We are celebrating immi’s little brother’s first birthday! Immi is having some chocolate milk, french toast and bacon (one of very few meat type food she actually eats!).

Immi and I are making for Ashland some pancakes because it’s his special day! This was immi’s idea, she pulled out the pancake mix and demanded we make it.

Immi has been totally obsessed with pouring beads into different containers with a spoon for various pretend purposes. Right now she is pretending to put coffee beans into the grinder to grind it. Making coffee is not immi’s favorite activity she enjoys with her dad. She thinks that it smells good, and she demands to make it every morning!

dress-up

July 20th, 2010 | By Kyoko

Immi suddenly seems to have decided that culinary-chic is the new direction in fashion. See, I’m assuming that most kids wear apron and oven mitts to play at the play kitchen…not Immi though, she is just hanging out and asking me often if her outfit is “cute”.

Oskar sat on the shelf and watched immi shred paper into tiny pieces to make tiny mails to fit the tiny mail boxes of doll houses for entire hour or so (they are both patient!).

Immi is still shredding paper (it’s been  like 4–5 hours now?). At this point, they are no longer tiny mails, but snow! She is making it snow on top of her Carebear (polar bear?).

We are at the PSU market. Immi is sitting and listening to bluegrass band.

We walked over to the Pioneer Square and found a Doc Martens shop! It looked so cute from the outside that we went in and and Immi and I found many pairs of shoes that we totally loved, but didn’t get any…good for us (not that they have shoes in immi’s size!). And I totally love this couch!

Immi is sitting on the chair and waiting for the bus. There’s a band playing very happy music across the street.

Immi and her daddy are making garlic & rosemary oil for dipping sourdough bread we just got at the market.

We had sonogram appointment for Baby No.3…and everything looks good! It looks like immi will have another little brother. We were all starving by the time we finished at the hospital so we decided to celebrate our very good appointment with our favorite pasta in town.  Immi and her daddy are sharing lemonade!

sunday

July 4th, 2010 | By Kyoko

We are at the Saturday Market (it’s open on Saturdays and Sundays but it’s called the Saturday Market) at the waterfront of Portland. Immi loves going to these happening with yummy food and lots of live music!

We took the bus a bit further north of town to Heart Roasters. Immi is very happy about the cookie with very generous amount of cream sandwiched in it!

Waiting for the bus to head home before the town gets filled with people for fireworks!

We are back at home making some coffee. Immi loves to help with this process. She seems to like the way coffee smells. In fact, she probably loves coffee — I can’t leave my coffee unattended even for a moment …I’ve caught her sneakily sipping it quite a few times! (No coffee for immi for a long long time!! I dunno, when she is about 13, she can have natural decaf? I’m not sure).
