garden

May 12th, 2009 | By Kyoko

Immi and her dad are working on the little garden. This year we have lots of herbs and tomatoes and peppers. I like mostly edible things (I think that they are pretty, and besides, you can eat it!) but this year we have some very cute little flowering plants in varoius shades of purple.

We had monthly check-up (its going to be bi-weekly from now on) for our No.2 yesterday. We discussed about the sonogram result and we are making appointment with specialist for next monday. Otherwise, everything looks good. I passed the glucose tolerance test, and I’m not even anemic this time. I only gained 4lb (as oppsed to 6lb last month!), I’d say this is due to having no microwave (we have electricity but we still need new circuit to run microwave on):D We got the hospital registration packet from the OB, which somehow makes everything more real.

Immi’s notable new word is “giraffe”! And her current favorite food is pickles and oilves. Quite often she wants them for breakfast along with fruits, ceral, and soy milk…

We went baby shopping for the little boy this past weekend. We would have waited a bit longer but we had lots of useful coupons (I don’t regulary clip coupons but I love the ones from babiesrus and those 40% off ones from Michaels!). We really don’t need much because we have stuff from when immi was a baby but we did get crib bedding set (immi’s was pink), baby bath tub (oskar scratched up immi’s so we didn’t save it) and few other little things. …now all I have to do is get motivated at some point and get my Hello Kitty sewing machine out to sew up bunch of burp cloths, bassinet sheets, boppy pillow covers and probably a sling.

just a note here

April 20th, 2009 | By Kyoko

Hi! If you’ve wondered why I haven’t updated immi blog in a while its because we are having electrical problem at our place and we don’t have electricity in most of the important part of our living quarters (most of kitchen, the entire studio/office, part of living room, and hallway). I’m borrowing internet now to write this note on my spare laptop that doesn’t have working photo software , e-mail, passwords to anything (lesson learned here, I’ll have to change my sloppy ways of keeping track of passwords!), and my memory card on my camera is completely full but I can’t turn on my computer (its a desktop, I’m not about to move it!) or backup hard-drive.

If you haven’t heard from me (I miss reading your blogs and leaving comments on your facebook!) this is why :( I’m so sorry I haven’t replied to any of your messages. I just thought I should let you know that we are all healthy and well and we’ll be back hopefully shortly.

Immi is doing just fine. Her new words are ‘kitchen’ and ‘kitty’ (finally!! she’s been calling it a ‘meow’!). She stole an entire pack of gum (which we are usually careful about hiding!)and ate most of it yesterday (I hope her tummy will be ok).Right at this moment, she is grumpy because I won’t let her have another cookie (it’s big, and she already had one today).

misc.

February 7th, 2009 | By Kyoko

Immi said “chip!!!” yesterday — she wanted some tortilla chips. I guess she is going to say all variety of food names before much of anything else. (apple, cheese, cracker, banana, ice …she tried to say yogurt the other day, but it came out sounding more like “gurgurt”)

Today she came to me and said “cheese!!!” because she wanted some. She usually pulls on my arm to get me to fridge and point at the cheese drawer, so telling me what she wants, I think, is a milestone:)

We got immi another potty, this kind just sits on the floor. She has been sitting on it periodically when she comes into the bathroom. Yesterday, she wanted me to take her skirt off (but didn’t want her diaper off) and sat on her potty. Then, she made a funny squeezing face and …tooted. I think that it was a nice try anyhow.

snickers bar aquatic feline surprise

January 16th, 2009 | By Todd

I am still in dis-belief  by the startling and mysterious events of this evening.  Sitting in the next room, I heard Kyoko parroting in varying tones of utter curiosity:

“What is that?!? What isssss that??? Toddd! What is thaaaat?”

As I rounded the corner to the kitchen, kyoko stood near the gate cautiously pointing and peering down at the cats lonesome water bowl…something very strange was floating in the kittie water.  A brown anomaly.  I slowly quickly connected the dots:

missing diaper

+

cat’s water bowl

+

snickers bar

=

???????

Time for a little word association to aid in the detection process -

When I say water bowl, you say…Toilet!!!

Conclusion –

Immi left a floater in the cats’ water bowl.  Mystery solved, case closed.

Political Ramifications -

Geo-fecal submarine and international maritime lines have been crossed.  A aquatic feline war has been declared.  Mew battles have begun.  Code brown weapons have been deployed in the immediate vicinity.  The kitty water supply has been intentionally contaminated.  New meaning has come to the phrase “don’t drink the water.”

And somehow I landed decontamination duty. This is definitely getting classified under “development” and “milestones!”

thursday

October 16th, 2008 | By Kyoko

Immi is doing stickers as usual. She doesn’t seem to get bored of them. Luckily (for me!) she almost never sticks them on anything other than her notebook or herself.

Immi and I got back from immi-shopping with immi’s grandmom. We went looking for a dress but came home with a whole lot more. …And I thought immi was going to take a nap, but she seems to have forgotten about being tired and happily playing with her first set of normal size My Little Ponies that her grandmom got her. (She is putting tiara on the unicorn.)

Lately, Immi enjoys spilling a bit of water in her cup on purpose, grabbing a towel from the kitchen and wiping it clean. The main problem I have with this is that, most often, she throws the towel (not disposable!) in the trash bin and not in the laundry basket…

nap and colors

September 15th, 2008 | By Kyoko

Immi fell a sleep in the car on the way back from the shopping mall (her dad was getting a hair cut and we tagged along for fun), and slept through getting out of the seat, walking upstairs and all that. This is the first nap in a couple of days — I was starting to think that she quit napping! Mr. Seagal is napping too.

I discovered yesterday that Immi knows colors. It’s not easy to find out exactly what Immi knows because she won’t do anything if she thinks that she is being tested. I happen to ask her if she wanted me to put the green hair clip in her hair (because it would have matched her outfit) and she pretended to put the green hair clip (there were about 10 other colors and about 25 clips, mostly black) before handing it to me. And then today, I asked her to get her box, she didn’t seem to know which of the many boxes in the room —  until I said “the sparkly pink box” . The sparkly pink box is a new item in the room, and I hadn’t ever referred to it as that until this point.

Speaking of colors, I have been getting the impression that Immi color coordinates her accessories (hats and jewelry and such) but I figured that I must be imagining it. Well, now I’m quite sure she picks them quite consciously. She usually puts on pink-ish necklaces when she puts on her pink hat, for an example. When we went shoe shopping the other day, she looked at every purse until she found one that matched her black/leopard print color scheme, and carried it around the rest of the time at the store.

immi says…

September 5th, 2008 | By Kyoko

I was brushing up stuff (mostly immi crunchies that she dropped, some dust bunnies, few tufts of kitty fur) off the floor into the dustpan when I saw,  in the corner of my eyes, Immi grab a cookie off the table. It crossed my mind to stop her from eating it, as it was before her breakfast, but I decided that it’s my fault for having left it there so I let her enjoy it. Besides, I had donut for breakfast, who am I to judge?

And then I heard Immi say:

“Hmmmm! It’s so yummy.”

I was so shocked. And it was really creepy (as creepy as Red Room speak in the Black Lodge of Twin Peaks!) since it didn’t sound at all like an immi babble that I have gotten so used to.

So here is the word count in chronological order

1) “meow”

2) “hi”

3) “yay!” (does this count as a word?)

4) “wroof”

5) “bye”

6) “Hmmm! It’s so yummy.”

Immi also says “mama” and “dada” but those aren’t really real words are they?

checkup

September 4th, 2008 | By Kyoko

Immi had her 18 month checkup (nearly a month late, this was the earliest they can squeeze her in even though we called plenty of time ahead) today.

And everything is well. Except that she really didn’t want to be there at all from the moment we stepped in (she definitely remembers being vaccinated last time). The doctor didn’t even make a big fuss over her low body weight, deciding finally (after 19 months!) that it just might be possible that Immi has taken on body type that’s similar to mine.

She got much taller!

Height: 31 inches

Weight: 18 lb

…and her head is still very big (75-99 percentile). While her height is 25 percentile and her weight is still off the chart.

trash

August 20th, 2008 | By Kyoko

Immi seems to understand the concept behind trash bin! When immi is done eating her cereal bar, she puts the wrapper in the trash. When she peels the border off the sticker sheet, she rolls it up in her palms and puts it in the trash. When immi finished having cereals in the tiny chocolate box from Japan earlier today (I ate the chocolate and refilled it with cereal before giving it to immi…is that mean? ) she put that in the trash too. In the past few weeks I’ve been watching her put stuff in trash, I have yet to catch her putting non-trash into trash bin.

And I have evidence that immi remembers things from a month before. When immi spotted Boo-Boo Juice (her foaming wound cleanser that smells like fruits!) in the bathroom cabinet, she pretended to put it on her knees just like the last time we used it, which was about a month ago. It’s not that I didn’t know that she has long term memory, but it’s fun to see glimps of what goes on inside Immi’s head!
